2 years ago, I posted about shopping with a conscience and linked to some great organizations that help the world with their business. You can see that here: Presents Under The Tree. Those companies still exist and are companies that I still highly recommend. I've even gone beyond Christmas and bought wedding and birthday presents from these companies.

I first met Caitlin in Santa Barbara, CA as I was only weeks away from moving to Boston. Caitlin was already living out East and since I was on my way, we were connected through a mutual friend. I remember following her on Instagram, thinking she was way too cool to ever be my friend. Good thing I was so wrong because she's the best ever.

Growing up in mounds of snow....was not my favorite and was a large reason why I decided to pack up my car at 17 and attend college in California. For 10 years, I loved the lack of powder on the ground, rubbing it in people's faces that I had my toes dug into the sand on the beach in January while they scraped ice off their car windows.

I really can't tell you the moment that I fell in love with hiking or even enjoying nature really but it grew on me. It once was my last choice to spend a full day of my weekend hiking around in snow. No longer is this the case and I welcomed being invited to take a drive out to New Hampshire with Paul to hike through what I now call "winter wonderland."

There are no other families like the Canter family. Becoming my friend during a season of disconnection, making it known that I can come over anytime, checking in on me often to see how I am doing, Facetiming on vacations and spending holidays together. I love these people.

Presents under the tree

There is something incredibly special about the holiday season. Last night as I walked home from a friend's place, it was snowing. The very magical, sweet and soft snow. It wasn't too cold and the city was being lightly dusted with the puffiest of white. It brought back memories of snowmen, forts, snowball fights, snow angels, Christmas break, the lights of our tree illuminating our hallway, peeking under our bedroom doors. I was remembering all of the mornings sitting by the tree with my dad, telling of our best memories from the year, opening extremely thoughtful presents.

The Abdulla family is the epitome of Southern California. Tall, beautiful, tanned, stylish and lover of all things healthy (especially kale). 3 years ago, the Abdulla family moved to Boston as they felt called to start a church in the South End. Me, along with 29 other people made the move along with them and I have not had an ounce of regret.

Hudson and I decided one long Saturday to stay inside and watch the rain pound against the window. I'm pretty sure he would have rather jumped in the puddles outside but thankfully he obliged to my desire to stay dry and posed for some pictures instead.
